Thank you Marge for creating the Ultimate Premiere Gown for me! wanted to celebrate a special moment in my life with a special outfit, and the Tweed Queen herself made that a reality.
The outfit started with a vintage silk Opera Coat I'd been given by a friend to wear at the premiere of ALMA, the Belgian musical I wrote the lyrics for. Marge transformed it by giving it a high collar - pure opulence ! - then we set about researching ideas together for a gown to go beneath it, rifling through her marvellous collection of vintage Hollywood picture books.
Jean Harlow in China Seas provided the perfect gown inspiration, and Marge took it from there, creating not only a glamorous, flattering and comfortable velvet number, but spending absolutely hours beading the straps to lift it into true couture.
Not only was my gown perfect for that landmark night, but I've been able to wear it several times since, to sing jaz inat Art Deco haven, Burgh Island Hotel in Devon, and to swish about in at a Highland Country House Weekend.
I know I'll be wearing it for many years to come.
